2000 boxster s first car?

I'm looking for a first car to own and the 986 boxster seemed just perfect! Great handling, relatively reliable, mid-engined, and low enough price. I'm just worried that it might be too much to handle. My parents are very supportive and both owned mazda rx 7's at 18. They both are great drivers. Will a S be to much to hand? Will a 200 hp 1999 be to much? I'm not looking for stoplight thrills are drag racing. Maybe some track days or autocracy. Is it just too much car to handle?

NO, it is the perfect car as a day driver, fun when you need it. Basically the car is only good as the driver. I do not track mine at all, it is a fun car. Now if you want something that can get away from you in a heart beat...Buy a Corvette. The 2000 S comes with a 3.2 liter at 255hp.

Here's mine.

Sorry, that's my other fun vehicle.

Not too much to handle at all. It is a great car that will deliver at every corner. You wont win in a straight line against all to suped up tuner kids but there is enough power and fantastic handling that it make it worth every penny. In my opinion the Boxster has the best dollar per fun ranking. Only down side is parts are expensive and so is the labor if your not doing it yourself.

Make sure you get one that's Speed Yellow. It's Porsche's fastest color.

Sweet! Where is the best place to find one in the US I hear autotempest is good. Also, could I install the ceramic IMS bearing by myself or with my dad? Will a normal mechanic be able to follow the instructions without screwing it up? Or just take to a porsche dealer. I've heard many people suggest to get a PPS inspection. Do I just call up a porsche dealer in the area and ask them to look it over? Sorry so many questions all at once lol

Actually, Glacier White is the fastest because white is the reflection of all colors.
Everybody knows this

This is what I would do.

Start with a Miata, get some sticky tires for the track. Learn how to drive the car, which will be a lot more fun since the limit is much lower. Also the cost to do upgrades is very cheap and you don't need a master mechanic to work on the car.

Then after you've worn out a few sets of tires consider upgrading to the Boxster S, one with the IMS bearing already replaced and with a good record of frequent oil changes (every 7 or 8 months).

Hey Chris, noticed you are in Taichung

I'm in Shanghai and so my little boxster. Think about getting a 2.5 or the 2.7 max. Much cheaper on petrol (more cash for you for Friday KTVs) and really, if I can take up this car to 60kmph around town here, then I can go tell everybody that I've been pro-racing a Porsche Car! I can't imagine you'll need to go faster than me in Taichung

In fact, the scooters seems to go faster than me in a Porsche car here

Hahaha. I always joke I can never get enough power. A lot of people always fantasize about throwing in a 3.4 or 3.6. Handling/steering is excellent, acceleration is excellent; it's a very good car. The Boxster is no hypercar by any means, but it's no slouch either.

Haha actually I'll be back in the states before I can get my license. I think I might spring for a dirt cheap metro just to learn stick while I'm saving up......but about the PPI people!
