Are non-S 986 front brake discs interchangeable with another car, maybe VAG?

As per title, wondering if non-S 986 front brake discs interchangeable with another car, maybe something from VAG?

There's an idiotic Porsche tax on the price of these things so wondering if they are in fact the same as those fitted to another car and can thus be bought cheaper...

Try looking into Audi's; back in the day, when upgrading base cars to full S brakes (Brembo used to make a bolt on kit for this, but no longer do), we found several of our customers sold their base brakes to Audi owners, who simply bolted them on.

Balo rotors are generic aftermarket and they are dirt cheap here. A set of fronts is around $50 and they seemed to work pretty well. Look em up.

Balo don't seem to be available in the UK.

There are lots of generic after market brands available. But either they or their retailers mark up the Porsche items horribly.

The PO had done that on my 968 It had a horrible shimmy at high speeds. Even caused him to spend 2 k replacing the abs controller. I bought the car heavily discounted because of shimmy and replaced the rotors , fixing the problem. I didn't know that when I bought it but figured I could fix it for a lot less than the 3 or 4 k he was knocking off the price

Turns out gat wasn't the only bonehead thing he'd done though and I spent 2 or 3 years and quite a few $ getting the car straightened out

It's a great car now though. 20 year old paint starting to show its age but still looks great when it's detailed and handles great
