Front and Rear trunk struts

Question about how our front and rear trunk struts are suppose to support the lids. I have an 03 Boxster S and although the struts hold up the lids, they offer no resistance once you bring them down a few inches and if you let go after bringing it down a few inches, they would just drop(I never let them drop, I gently bring it down and push on the lid to lock it in place).

After seeing the video in the 993 post, the front trunk resist even right before closing, meaning if you were to let go of your hand before pushing it down to lock in place, the hood will open back up. Is this how our struts are suppose to act when new?

If so, I need some new ones. What's the price for each pair? Are there aftermarket alternatives?

Simple and inexpensive to replace the struts. Just do it!

I will add: buy the best you can afford. I purchased and used a replacement item that broke within a year and nearly caused me to close the frunk lid on the hanging cylinder. That would have certainly caused a permanent crease. Read the reviews, you might see my comment about the 'wrong' one.
