Dealer says use any coolant

I need more coolant for the Box. I called the dealer (instead of driving the 4 hours up there because I live in BFE) and asked if there was a substitute. He said he uses Prestone Lifetime. What do you guys think? Would if be safer just to have him ship the Porsche coolant down to me or am I just paying for the word on the bottle?

Also, blew the 12v outlet in the passenger wheel well using the air compressor to pump up my blown tire (bad day). Fuse maybe?

Porsche does not make their own coolant, it is contracted out (and then they slap their name on it), just like every part that is used on the car. More than likely is made by prestone or the like. Any safe for aluminum engine coolant other than the orange stuff is fine. I have never seen it, but the the orange and green coolants mixed together are said to gel. Pink or green and you will be ok.

There are two that meet the specs put out by Porsche, but Porsche does not "approve" of them. Then again, if I were selling a $8 bottle of coolant for $50, I wouldn't approve either.

Alternate Coolant for Porsche

If you change to anything other than the original Porsche coolant, you should do a complete flush of the system first to avoid bad chemical reactions between different coolants.

Interesting...I hate to flush all the coolant out just so I can add a little. I am half a finger width low. I might as well as buy a 50 clam bottle instead of flushing the system and putting 4-6 qts (not sure how much is in there) at 8 clams a quart. I plan on flushing the coolant in 2.5 years anyway (no, I don't believe in lifetime coolant). The only thing that lasts a lifetime is death and taxes.

I thought maybe I could cheat and add a little of the above coolants. Thanks for the link...very informative.
