2001 rear trunk stuck

like the title says, my 2001 rear trunk is stuck. the 2001 has an electric release, and you can hear the mechanism trying to move, but the lid doesn't pop up.

sounds like i need to access the emergency trunk release cable, but old posts here suggest that this is done by removing the wheel and wheel well shield cover on the rear driver's side or the spoiler and bumper. which is it?

and has anyone posted any instructions that actually has some pictures? for example, some of the instructions say "remove the spoiler," but it doesn't say how to do that.

Rear trunk release

I pulled the driver side rear wheel, loosened the aft part of lining, reached in and grabbed the release cable. No need to remove the spoiler and or rear bumper cover.

As mentioned... reach in from the driver side...inside wheelwell lining the cable runs near the inside of the bumper where the parking sensors are. Don't pull the sensor wire by mistake! :-)

BTW u can't remove the bumper without opening the trunk... Co's u need to open the trunk in order to remove the spoiler in order to loosen the top of the rear bumper ; -)
