2.5 Engine Swap Trip to Manual Question
 

Quick background. Wrecked my trip 99 base 2.5l, still ran fine so took engine out. Bought a 1998 manual that needs the engine replaced.

So I've taken out the 99's trip but it was easier b/c i was taking everything out

My questions are:
1. are there any detailed guilds on how to take one out? so I dont forget anything, or take off unnecessary items

2. anything that should be replaced while its out? Belts, seals, fluids ect, it has 79k on it. I'm going to opt out of the ims right now b/c of money

3. Is there anything else in the conversion besides switching the torque converter for the flywheel, The car will stay with the original transmission so nothing except wiring harness from what i've read.

Dash, ECU, immobilizer, wiring harnesses. This is no simple job so expect to spend 100 hrs plus getting all the little details right... or just swap motors and drive it 5spd.

Bentley manual and 101 projects would be a good starting point.

I removed my engine using pelican parts 101 Boxster projects as a guide. Piece of cake.

Fairly complicated. Not many have done this. Certainly can be done but expect to spend a lot of time getting all of the details right.

I'm with those suggesting that you just swap the engine and drive it as with the manual transmission. The time and money savings will be huge (and should leave you more than enough spare change to upgrade the IMS bearing, which should not only provide additonal comfort, but resale value down the road).

I read that the engine p/n# is the same from porsche for manual and triptronic , is there a pilot bearing in them?

Side question, The motor that is no good in the car now has stainless steel manifolds, the good one does not, is there any reason to switch these? I'm just afraid of he heads twisting off b/c of heat and dealing with that.
