something stuck inside soft top

is this spot normal for 987 boxsters? Whats causing this part of the top to stick out like that. Seems like something inside is in the wrong place.

looking under, i found this is the reason for the raised spot.
Anyone have any idea what this piece is, or where it came from?

closer look of the end of the string below.

the approximate area where this string is attached to, seems like its attached to the inside liner, cotton type material.

Offhand it kind of looks like one of the cords that runs across the roof for guiding the fabric when being raised/lowered.

is it ok if i just cut it or hide the string somewhere so the end doesnt cause a blob on my top? as far as I can tell the roof is opening and closing as normal...and I have no idea how this string is helping. why does the end look and feel like someone spit their gum out of the mouth and attached it to the car...

half the time, the driver side cable doesn't fall into channel, but I seem to have fix that issue. wonder if this loose string is related.
