AOS Failure - need for exhaust system cleaning?
 

Drove a few miles around town with a few Pcar owners yesterday. My mate, who also has a 986, had his AOS blown up on the freeway. I was driving right behind him..... when it happened the world completely disappeared around me, thick white smoke everywhere, I had to hit the brakes and hit the hazard light asap (very scary stuff).

His rear bumber was covered on oil so I'm guessing his exhaust system is full of oil as well.

Everyone says that once fixed, the oil will eventually burn and the exhaust system will be just fine. I am the only one to think that the exhaust system has to come out and go for cleaning (cat converters, muffler etc).

What do you guys recommend?

How much oil is missing. Check the level.

I would be more concerned with how much oil got into the cylinders creating hydraulic lock.

Was the car driven or towed after this happened and did it still run?

Yes the dipstick shown low (1mm above the low line). It was originally put to half by the Indy we all go too.

The car was still running after but we forced the dude to tow the thing back home.

Where is all the oil gone? Burnt in smoke or stuck in the exhaust?

Everyone there yesterday (all pcar owners) were saying that it's all burned out, nothing in the exhaust although the rear bumper was clearly splashed with oil residue, wet tailpipe and all. Was I the only idiot there?

Change the spark plugs.. The exhaust will be fine.

You may have an O2 sensor failure in a few weeks, if so the oil did it.

I didn't know really, it just made sense to me that the oil was sitting in the cat cells and possibly soaked the muffler's packing.

Oh I was also trying to show off my great (non-existent) Porsche Car technical skills in front of the girls around us :D

Not my 986 so I guess I have to apologize to my mate for being wrong. I'm also the one who forced/convinced him to get it towed :/ while everyone else was saying just don't push it and you can take it home slowly.
