Variable Intermittent Wiper Installation - Problem with lighting
 

I installed the variable intermittent wiper using these instructions:

I obtained the dial out of a wrecked 04 Special edition and I bought the relay from another board member who had upgraded to rain-sensing wiper. So the cost was pretty reasonable. The installation was a bit more time consuming than suggested in the instructions, but the control is working fine.

The problem that I'm having is that the led stays lit all of the time, even when the car is turned off. In addition, when I dim the rest of the dash, the intermittent wiper control gets brighter, and when I make the rest of the dash brighter, the wiper control gets dimmer.

The instructions recommended hacking into the cigarette lighter illumination wiring for illumination. I had run a wire to the back of the relay carrier to BS 5/2 to provide illumination for a targa switch that I use for a garage door opener. So, I used that for illumination. That source works fine for my targa switch.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to correct this? I'm keeping the car on my battery maintainer tonight, but I don't want to have to worry about the led draining the battery.

It turns out that the light needed to be on both the BS7and BS5/2 circuits. Attaching one pin directly to the ground caused in to be in the constant on state.

Everything is now working as expected.
