Replacing engine bay fan
My engine bay coolant fan is not working. I replaced the relay and can hear it clicking when I hook up my Durametric but fan does not go on. The fuse is good so I am thinking the fan is shot. Is there a DIY to explain how to do this?

I've never serviced it but it's a single speed and should only have two wires.
Get a digital multimeter (DMM) and determine ground and test it directly to battery. Sorry for not be detail but hopefully someone can chime in and describe more. |
I think I need to clarify. I have a durametric. when I hook it up and try to test the engine bay fan I can hear the relay clicking but the fan does not go on. I checked the fuse and its good but still fan doesn't go on. when I pull out the relay and use a jumper the fan goes on no problem and runs strong. So why would the fan work fine with the jumper and not using the durametric?

Based on your testing, I'd say you have a bad relay. After all, it works when you use a jumper. Just because a relay clicks does not mean the contacts are making contact or that the contacts are not burned/pitted and unable to handle the current flow.
