Magnus Walker

This guy is a Phenomenal Self Marketer, as a result of it his cars have fetched over $300k at auction. If this doesn't stir your soul towards air cooled 911 godliness I don't know what will:

I really like what he has done w/ his cars. He's taken the early 911 and make it unique to him. He says "I do what makes me happy and I don't really worry about what other people do."

My philosophy too. I currently have three 986 Boxsters. Two are bone stock, very virgin cars. The third I'm building how I vision Porsche would have built a GT3 Boxster, taking styling and performance cues off the Boxster and the 996/997 GT3's. Once complete this winter I'm sure I'll catch some grief here when I post pictures of the build. But at least it won't have pink wheels!

But like Mangus, this will be my version and vision of how I want my car to look and what makes me happy.

If you've never checked Mangus Walker out, go here:

He is a local LA guy and he is quite a character. We have met and chatted a few times at meets or canyon tours. He is very focused and articulate for a guy who at first glance looks like he could be homeless. Someday I need to get a tour of his garage/workshop.

Bravo Magnus!

I often wonder if that artsy customization won't evenutally backfire. Some of those 911's he leans towards are very difficult to find now. Unlike these 911's the 993 and 964's for the most part are not quiet old enough yet where most of the owners have neglected them. And showroom 993 and 964's will probably never be hard to source since the typical owner looks after them. At any rate, those 1960s and 1970's Carreras may be worth huge money some day and typically the more original and unmolested they are the higher they are worth. A 550 recently sold for $3 million, which tells you the potential. The last thing I would be doing is monkeying around with these particular 911's when so many other newer, safer, better handling Porsches can be used for Hossier time.
But I would be mimicking Walker in finding an abandoned space to rehab and filling it with 60's and 70's Carreras and some 80's. Which is exactly the type of overhauls my indy does, if I were him that's all I would be doing.
A 'certified' 60's and 70's rebuild from a master mechanic carries its own premium.

I have just read about Magnus walker and love what he has done with old 911's! Not that it would change my opinion, but I wonder what he thinks of newer water cooled cars and boxsters specifically? I be he could really do great things with one.

Keep in mind he comes from the rock/metal world and has a major clothing line that supports said world. My guess is that his popularity is no accident. He's got big money friends, it doesn't take many of them to help promote a name. 'Course the quality of work might have something to do with it too

I think he was in one of the British magazines, I think it was Total911, a few months back and he was driving all manner of Porsches. It seemed to be at Porsche's request. While he's firmly in the 'engine in the back' camp, he seemed to have a lot of good things to say about the new stuff. Although me personally I like to hear what the actual professional racers have to say. Walther Rohrl for instance said that the Coxster is his pick for 'driver's car'.

If you like Magnus' cars, then check out Singer - equal or better retro car quality and performance.

Why do you have to listen to them when you know what the answer is...?

The singer cars are like RUF vs. Porsche, but like on steroids...

The Chris Harris video on Singer is pretty outrageous. $30K for a wiring harness alone! Which is about a 1/3 of what Magnus was initially expecting for his famous white Carrera, even though he got nearly triple.

But $300K is "Just for starters" for a Singer. Seems like that might be a tough resell on a backdated car. That's 73 RS money.

Well, I had originally posted the video for the crowds viewing pleasure. I shouldn't be surprised to see the usual suspects (almost a month after the OP) turn it into "Boxster vs. 911" debate, get over it already. Enjoy the video for what it is, cool.

Magnus was profiled on the TV show Fifth Gear which I played back today on my PVR. I recorded this episode Friday night 10/4/13 on Velocity Channel. Lots of cool 911s in his shop.

My mum would loveeee one of those vintage 911! I can easily picture her signing-out-loud her favorite Supertramp songs in that cabin

Not as good of a Production as the Walker's one but far better "986" related

The Magnus Walker video below is about his 1966 911. This will make you want a 120 hp Porsche! Also, he says in the video he is in the market for a mid 2003 to 2005 GT3, which he says give a lot of bang to the buck

Not even fair to compare this vid to Magnus Walker, but yes, at least its got 100% 986 content! Perhaps more noteworthy here is that this video is from Iceland, a country with just over 300K inhabitants and probably known more for its volcanos then its top-down weather.
