2.5 vs 2.7

ive heard that the 2.5 has a better 0-60 then the 2.7.IM NOT SURE THOUGH. this may sound stupid but did the 2.7 engine add alittle weight or no,is that why..

Well, Porsche has increased the 2.7L output a few times. First it had 217hp, then 225hp and now 236hp. The 2.5L car was lighter but I think the 2.7L is slightly quicker in all forms.

does anybody have an opinion on this??

I don't know all the particulars, but I will say this: I've always thought my 2.5 was spirited, but wondered if a 2.7 would be faster. So, I drove a forum member's 2.7 and did not find it much faster if at all. BTW, this was scientifically supported with my butt-dyno or the seat of the pants experience.

And there you have it.

I don't think there's much difference. Factory HP was 204 in the 2.5 vs. 217 in the first 2.7. Torque is 181 lb-ft vs. 192 lb-ft.

The gear ratios are the same except for 4th and 5th where the 2.7 has a higher ration 4th and a lower ratio 5th (barely) than the 2.5.

Hi,

The difference is much greater on Paper than you'll ever experience in Real Life!

Congrats on your New Toy, the 1st Gen Boxsters are destined to become Classics...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
