Engineless Boxster -- EV, Racecar, Subaru, Hybrid?
 

I'm trying to decide what to do with my 97 Boxster.
I purchased it without an engine or trans and intended to make it a electric race car,
but plans have changed and I need to sell the car.
I have some time to work on it, so I'm wondering what I can do that would be cost-effective before selling.

Getting a used 2.7 engine and trans is not cost effective, I need most all the parts from a donor, so the only viable option is to buy another wrecked one, not parts from a salvage yard, as they charge way too much for everything.

I'd like to convert it to an EV, as I have about $5-10k of those parts already,
but that seems like a tough sell.

I also have a EG33 subaru F6 engine, a 3.4L V8, the problem is California does not like engine swaps, so a buyer is going to be from out of state.

Any suggestions, or better yet, some interest in having me work on it for you?
And btw, I've built many cars, a couple from the ground up, done engine swaps, built one EV, so I have skills and experience.

no suggestions? How about parting it out? Just selling it as-is about $3k is all I can get.

a 2.7 is already a engine swap, since a 97 would have came with a 2.5

EV boxster would be nice as long as the range is reasonable.

Rob's 1999 Porsche Boxster this guy build a EV boxster from a 99 but the batteries kept degrading over a 11,000 mile period and only offers a 15 mile range now.

I'm a prospect @ $3,000.

And there is the problem, I can sell it as-is dirt cheap at a loss, or make it into something more valuable with some effort, such as parting it out or EV,
or a race car, or ... something.

Regarding battery degrading, this is almost always because the driver is
accelerating too fast for the battery to handle. It is the gas engine equivalent
of reving a stock engine to 10,000 rpm all the time. It will ruin the engine.
Unless it was designed for it, and most batteries are not designed for such power.

I have a large pack of supercapacitors that was for this car as an EV race car.
They can dump massive power into the motor over and over without wearing out,
so this battery problem does not occur for a fast car. The other solution is like Tesla does, and just have a massive amount of battery, like $50k worth. ;)

Subaru EG33 3.3L Flat Six into Boxster
 

I have decided to put a Subaru 3.3L (EG33) engine into my Boxster.
It turns out this motor was made until 1997, so it would be a California legal swap into the 97 Boxster.

My major concern is getting the OBDII diagnostics/check engine light to work with the subaru engine. Any suggestions on where I can look for help on that?
