There may or maybe not a sticker on your car detailing the retro fit IMS bearing.
Theres no way of knowing if you have a single or double row bearing assembly by looking at the engine number.
Up to MY2000 engines have the double row bearing.
Some 2000 & 2001 engines can have either single or double row bearing.
After MY2001 engines have the single row bearing.
Seems like no hard and fast rules exist for the actual changeover - my 2001 was manufactured in February and has the dual row bearing.

some posted a detailed chart by year, but I'm too lazy to search for it. Don't know how accurate it is.

Hmm, that sounds doable. I'm looking at this which is what I think you're referring to:

Pelican Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW

I wish I knew a good Porsche mechanic in Phoenix I could discuss doing this work with. This article Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Intermediate Shaft Bearing Replacement and Upgrade (IMS) - 986 Boxster (1997-04) - 987 Boxster (2005-06) seems to imply that a new clutch is due around 45k miles... which I'm close too. But the clutch in my car feels fine.

Anyway, thanks, food for thought.
