Dome light problem? Maybe...

I bought my Boxster used a little over a year ago. Over all it was in good condition. I have since been curious if my dome light has an issue or if it is acting as it is supposed to. Every car I've ever had or been in the dome light turns off when the doors are open and for a few seconds after the car has been turned off. It does not in my car. There is the standard switch with three settings (what I assume is On, Off, and On when doors are open) but none of the three settings work as I am used to. However if you turn it on while the car is running it works.

I'm not sure if there is something wrong with it or is just how boxsters are. No big deal but it would be nice to know. Thanks.

2001 Owner's Manual says (page 92):

Interior Light
Switching off
> Press left half of switch.
Switching to continuous illumination
> Press right half of switch.
Switching on and off automatically
> Move switch to central position.

Note this is for the cars without the automatic mirror dimming. As you say you have a switch, I believe this is what you have. Otherwise the lamp housing/lens is the switch.
