Sure, if you don't bother with synthetic oil, let alone ones that are recommended for your Porsche.

If you're serious about them doing your oil change, just call them and ask if they'll do it for $9.99 if you supply the oil, filter, and crush ring.

If they agree, provide the exact amount of oil needed, and try to "supervise" the project. You want to make sure they torque the filter and oil plug to factory specs. When they get your Boxster off the lift, check the level yourself, and add any oil if necessary.

Hey, if you're not equipped to change the oil yourself, ten bucks is a great deal to have someone else do it. You can get synthetic oil, a filter, and a crush ring for about $60.00. Sure beats paying dealer prices.

I do my own oil changes as I have access to a lift. I pay $5/hour for the bay rental. Personally, I think it'd be worth $10 to not have to put the car on stands crawl under.

If they treated the boxster the same way they did when they chipped my wheels during a new tire mounting, I would say do it at home.

My last oil change was $200 using Motul 8100.

Sears oil change is $10. Probably $30 if you rolled in with a new C7 Stingray.

i would gladly do the oil change myself...however, I have a 3rd party warranty (i did not pay extra for this), and the warranty stipulates that all maintenance work must be done by an ASE certified mechanic according to the maintenance schedule...so since Porsche recommends it every 10,000 Miles... I'll shell out dough for the first one at my indy shop, and then after 5,000 do it myself...and then at the next 10k...shell out dough to get it done by my indy shop...

what do you think?

I just changed mine last week. No way I would pay someone a dime to do what takes literally 10 min of work(+ 30 min drain time).

I jacked the drivers side rear of the car up a bit(not even enough to get the tire off the ground) in order to squeeze the catch pan under, and the filter and plug were easily within arms reach...I think stands are overkill ;)
Then again, I'm thin and have long arms, so... :rolleyes:

figured id see if anyone thinks its doable and worth it...clearly its more hassle than its worth. Since i'll have to get the oil myself go to a sears, make an appt, etc... The hassle is not worth the 60 bucks saved... my local indy does the oil change for ~140... If sears actually did the whole thing for $10 bucks. I'd do the hassle to save around $100...

So call Sears and see if they stock the oil/filter you want to use. If so, buy 5 additional quarts, plus maybe a filter and have them change it.

Costs you $35 for the items you supply plus $10 to Sears. You still save almost $100.

I'd do it, but not if I have to join FB. That's something that's not worth $100 to me.
