Is the 3000 rpm buzz bad for the engine?

Hello everyone, my name is Gary and I am a new member here.

My 2001 986S has a slight buzz at 3,000 rpm's that appears to be relatively common and is similar to that described by others.

I have read much about it using search and see there seems to be some debate about the source of this buzz - exhaust, cam profiles changing, boxer engine personality, etc etc.

What I am trying to figure out is if it is a bad thing.

Does the 3,000 rpm buzz mean there is something wrong with the engine?

Should I avoid conditions that create this buzz, i.e. is it bad for the car? Or just not worry about it.

Thanks everybody!

Gary

A new motor mount should fix the vibration at 3000 rpm, if that's what you mean. If it's a buzzing sound, then it might be something else. As for damage it causes, I'm curious about that myself.

Madmods,

Thanks, I have been thinking about doing the Crios mod, this is perfect reason!

It has always seemed like exhaust resonance to me.

My guess is that motor mount will make it less noticeable however will still be there as it is not cause.

Somebody told me it was due to the cams being 'a little off', I am not sure if that is right as I would think the buzz would happen in all circumstances at that rev range.

I will do the Crios mod and report the outcome.
