They're my favorite :)

Heard the same from the dealer parts guy as well. It's a cheap part and no reason why you shouldn't update it to the latest one if you have an original from way back.

Mine started popping off erratically about a month ago. So it's now the .04 version and been fine ever since.

bump..... bump

04 means 5th version.

I'm on my 2nd new version, as first was bad.

At 133K km (about 83K miles), my 2001 Boxster S has had the waterpump replaced at least twice, I just replaced the reservoir tank, but I'm still on the original cap (I keep forgetting to order a new one). So far no issues with this cap.

^ If you removed that old cap more than a few times it's probably holding less pressure each time than if you left it alone.
Some of our professional mechanics here say it needs to be at least 18 PSIG or they are tossed.
That's tough to tell from merely a visual inspection.

Weird timing on this poll. I just replaced mine yesterday with the latest one. The original was still on there but with no problems.

mikesz 07-01-2015 04:01 AM

replaced mine at 83k

I replaced mine with the .04 when I did my WP/Thermostat in January 2015. I think I had the .01 cap on there before with no problems.

Just replaced with the 04, still had the original one with no problems

Car #1: original cap, 98,000 miles
Car #2: original cap, 141,000 miles.

Car #2 has had a mysterious slow loss of coolant since I've had it, even though no one has ever been able to find a leak, or any evidence of one. Rear trunk always hot as a campfire inside.
Wonder if the escaping steam theory applies here? Time to replace and observe.
