Horrible hood crest

Having judged a few concours, I've seen lot of hood crests, and the Porsche quality is usually fantastic...until I look at the crest on my 99 C4. The color is blotchy, the plastc is uneven, and the edges look cheap. Anybody else dissatisfied with their crest?

Mine doesn't look great, but then again, it's a 11 year old car with 90k miles.

If that's a picture of it, it looks fine to me .

The previous owner just stuck on the silver and red badge before I bought it which i also would have done. Looks great!

+1

But then again, I really have no interest in concours. I'm a driver, not a collector. Personal preference.

Just make sure they are tight. If they get loose, then debris will go behind. Then the rubbing of the loose hood crest will scratch up the paint.

You can use a 10mm ratchet to remove the hood crest. Use 303 Aerospace to clean the rubber. Use quick detailer, or similar to clean/shine the crest itself. The whole exercise shouldn't take 15 minutes.

Snug (do not overtighten) when you reassemble. The rubber gasket should completely cover the outside of the crest, it cradles it. The rubber gasket in your photo looks good to me.

That's about $130 hood crest at the dealer. $100 on ebay. The older ones are probably like $50.

Your average sports car has a $5 plastic one.

I don't see what's wrong with it?

2009+ cars have a cheaper, simpler crest for $95... ours is $145 at Suncoast.

+1 that looks pretty good to me. I replaced mine at 38k mi. due to the black coloring flecking/fading out. I agree a little on the lesser quality. I have a friend with a '69 911T and his hood badge is way more detailed and quality.

There's a guy on RL that does good work refinishing hood crests.
