Funny you should ask, as I work at XM radio. You need a separate subscription for each receiver. However, the modern receiver's (Like the new XM Roady XT) are very small, portable, and have docking stations. Thus you could just take the receiver from home to car to car and then just pay a single subscription. The other item to note is that the second though fifth radio on an account pays a much smaller monthly fee ($6.99/Mo).
Obviously I can't speak for that "other" Satellite company
