Intermittent CDR-23 Amp problem fixed
Reposted as it was hidden in my original listing
Something that may help all you folks out there who are having intermittent problems with your CDR-23 Systems. When for the 3rd time, my RH channel stopped working, I decided to take out the amp and see whether I could fix it. On opening it up I found a number of dry solder joints - this is where (usually through heat) the solder around the component wire has cracked. I got out my trusty Weller solder station and soldered up all the joints that looked suspect. Hey presto - amp working perfectly again. It's my guess that the power transistors get quite hot and over time bad connections will develop. Let me know if this works for you. |
I believe I have the same symptoms you described.

Excellent. Hope it helps. Pity you aren't a little closer or you could have popped around.
Inside there is a metal shielding box (covers both side of the circuit board). It's worth removing this carefully, including the internal heat sink that is stuck to the inside of one of the shield covers and replacing the thermal grease to ensure that you have optimal cooling. Thermal grease can be bought from any electrnic shop of from ebay (see link below). Let me know if you need any help. |
I have same intermittent problems ! Reading your thread I hoped I had the same but nothing wrong when amps comes opened...

French Dude, what do you mean that nothing was wrong? You can't see a dry joint unless you look closely and even then you might miss it. What you need to do is to resolder (carefully not to overheat the transistors and capacitors) all the major joints you can see and then try it again. Intermittent problems are often caused by bad connections that expand and contract with heat.

But strangely, when I wired the amp in the car I tested the sound and nothings wrong... knock on wood. If mess come again I will do what you tell me ! |
