Gearbox Code Numbers.

Apparently Porsche make two different styles of 2.5 Manual Gearbox.

Where would I find the code on mine?

Thanks.

The transmission code is on the label on the underside of the front trunk (next to the engine code):

Transmission decoder:
G8600-00x = 5 speed gearbox for 1997 -1999
G8601-00x = 5 speed gearbox for 2000 - 2004
G8620-00x = 6-speed gearbox S-Models 2000-2004

x is either 1 or 2:
-001 is non-limited slip differential (LSD)
-002 is for the LSD

Tiptronic is A8600 or A86XX

I would say last year for G8600 is 1999 since the gearing changed in 2000 to match the new 2.7 engine. Might be different for ROW.

6-speed was improved mid 2001 with a triple row bearing for the imput shaft, replacing
the previous doublerow bearing to reduce vibration.

Yes, after a little more searching I found a good reference and updated the info above. Thanks!

I can't find the white sticker, looks like it's been removed and never put back.

I have a 1998 Bosxter so I'm guessing my code would fall under the "G8600-00x = 5 speed gearbox for 1997 -1999" you posted.

Thanks for that mate you just saved me a massive headache I would have had to have the engine removed in order to get to the gearbox a very painful job indeed.

With the last 3 digits, 00x, does anyone know what 103 means?
