Has anyone permanently removed their sun visors?

The whole concept of a sun visor in a convertible has always confused me. Ultimately, shouldn't one expect to have a bit of sun in their view when driving one? They main issue for me is that they take away a bit of the view to the sky when in the standard up position, which is what it's all about!

They are quite easy to remove with a few torx screws however it leaves several ugly gaps in the trim that one would not want to be staring at. Mazda Miata (MX5) owners often remove theirs for the same reason and there are a bunch of aftermarket parts which have been made to actually fill the gap (in the Miata's case there is only one). Some examples here: https://www.google.com/search?q=miata+visor+blanking+plate&client=safari& rls=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=aqzeUbG2 LNj84AOopYCIAQ&ved=0CEIQsAQ&biw=1377&bih=715&sei=c azeUbTgDu7i4APa0oCYDg

Has anyone permanently removed theirs in their 986? If so, I'd be curious to see if has anyone found a solution to the gaps.

No, I haven't. I guess if I only drove with the top down I might consider it, however the segment of the visors that run above the windshield frame is very small, so why worry about it? Think of it this way - while the visors in the up position marginally reduce the view of the sky (but when driving, shouldn't you be looking forward and not up????), they also marginally reduce interior buffeting.

I drive with the visors in the down position all the time since at 5'11" and the seat adjust low to the floor they do not obstruct my forward vision, nor when riding top down.

Actually I put them UP when driving top down because it helps shade the instruments so I can see them better with sun glasses on.

Never heard of a sun visor delete.

It would be hard to use a sun shade without my sun visors. When you take off the crazy air bag warning stickers, the visors are pretty acceptable.

SV delete

Porsche actually makes a sun visor delete kit that is basically the mounts without provision for the visor. Occasionally see them on ebay, can likely order from your favorite dealer. Gives a cleaner appearance, although you CAN just pull them out along the hinge pin of the visor. Never seen one in person, prefer to keep mine for the ability to drive off into the sunset ( or to rearrange my hair after a vigorous drive ).
