Did I get a good deal on my 03 Boxster
What's up, I'm obviously new here... Initially I was looking for a 2 seater convt as a daily driver. It came down to the S2000, Lotus Elise, and Boxster.
Anyways... I bought a 2003 Porsche Boxster Silver w/ Navy 5spd 48,000 miles. It came with a second set of wheels and snow tires (good shape but plain 5 stars) It has header, exhaust, and computer work. (I test drove others and this one is quite a bit quicker) It was a 1 owner car and he gave me all receipts from maintaining it(a ton of money) Good tires, brand new brakes rotors and tires. Interior 9.8/10 and exterior 9.0/10. He made me aware that the Porsche dealership told him he should "consider the rear main seal" during his last $400 oil change/inspection. He felt the dealer was up selling him and he had no oil in his garage (and none under the car). He didn't end up doing it and gave me an additional $750 off the car. So what's it worth?? Doesn't seem like book value means much with these cars other than a # for the banks...http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1373320404.jpg |
I would say from the recent research I've done the value is in the $16,000 to 18,000 range. He has done a lot of work and the mileage is great. It is all about the mileage and condition on a 10 yr. old car. Welcome aboard and good luck with your new toy.

Headers exhaust and a flash, thats does sound sweet. New brakes and tires? Even better I would get the RMS checked out at your Indy if you didn't do a ppi. Enjoy and welcome to the forum.

Nice looking car I enjoy my 2003. I hope you get the same enjoyment out of yours

Sounds like you got a nice deal. You didn't specify how much you paid though. But any way nice find and welcome. If you get the chance show up to some car meets in nothern nj, like edgewater.

I paid $15,000 for a 2002 with 44,000 miles on it last year. 03 gets a glass rear window which many see as more desirable and it seems there is usually a 2 to 3 thousand dollar jump from mine to a good 03. Mine has PSM (Porsche Stability Management) which I personally was looking for.

I paid $14,250 I believe the car has PSM as well, heated seats etc... I am a little disappointed that the radio will not work with my Iphone and it doesn't seem like there are any easy solutions..

I always say you never know what a fair price is until you do a thorough Pre Purchase Inspection with a leak down test.

Congrats in your new purchase. I too went through the dilemma between the lotus Elise and the boxster, but after driving, it was a no brainer for daily use.
I have the Denison adapter hooked to my porsche radio... Works great and you might be able to find them cheap, now that apple is switiching plugs. Works with my daughters iPod.. but not the iPhone 5. |
With the PCM you are pretty much stuck. I have the same in my '05 BS. The only options are 1) Porsche RF module - $395 2) Dension BT adaptor (or others) - $500+ 3) Rip out the PCM and put in an aftermarket double-DIN head unit - $3000+
I have heard good and bad things on the gateway products - most don't work that great with the PCM as they are somewhat buggy. However do your research as some have good experiences and others not so much. |

TMV was around $15k, but my wife don't buy unless she feels like she won a contest at the dealership. I paid less than $31k for my 350Z Touring ($36k sticker) in 03 and $30k for my BMW that was 3 months old and the previous buyer paid $42k. As long as I get my car, she can play negotiator all day long... :D |
