1/4 Mile Times

Just curuios as to what your guys 1/4mile times are that you ran. Please post your engine(2.5L,2.7L,3.2L etc.) and what mods you may have done.

ohioboxster 01-05-2006 03:40 AM

I think you can time a Boxster in the 1/4 mile with a calander, lol.

MNBoxster 01-05-2006 05:25 AM

Hi,

Silly question... you're in for some disappointment - probably the far side of 14. "Life is not lived by the ¼ Mile..." (Steve McQueen circa 1968), a Boxster shouldn't be measured by it either...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

wild1poet2 01-07-2006 07:45 PM

Hey Blinkwatt, doesn't sound too quick. I've seen the 1/4's timed in some mags but I forget. I'm still breaking in my motor so I'm keeping the revs down but can still tell there isn't going to be any neck snapping launches. A kid in a celica GT pulled up next to me at a set of lights today and lit it up. lol so did a kid in an old Taurus. I guess a Boxster isn't a sleeper and attracts unwanted attention. so it goes.

What I am curious about is what people have topped out at and how the car feels at those speeds.

I've had it up to 140 mph top down and 151mph with the top up. Neither was that scary because the car is just so planted at those speeds. You can tell the spoiler is doing it's job. 140mph with the top down feels like driving through a tornado. That's the only way to describe it. I have a wind screen but at that speed it doesn't do much good. The wind roar is deafening. 150 with the top up is much more subdued. It feels like a coupe. At those speeds tunnel vision starts kicking in and you start looking about a half mile down the road because the pavement and surrounds start to blurr. The car was still pulling steadily at 150mph but I got out of the throttle because I didn't want to die. Porsche says my car is good for 164mph but I doubt I will ever see that speed. 150mph is definatley an andrenaline rush. I highly recammend it, but only if the driving conditions are conducive to such speeds.

When I was in high school, my 1/4 mile time was around 54 seconds....but since then, doctors have "modded" my right knee twice.

Oh - you mean the car ;)

A Boxster may not be the fastest car in straight line acceleration, but throw in a couple of cones to slalom and there aren't many cars that will compare - especially at the price.

faterikcartman 01-08-2006 12:24 AM

The question to make us proud would have been "what are your slalom time?" On that front, we rule!

I’ve seen 135+ multiply times highest being 147 and the car feels extremely stable. At the time my car had H&R Springs with Bilstein Shocks, but even with stock suspension (which is great) it should have no problems. Chances are the driver will quit before the car reaches its limit...

wild1poet2 01-08-2006 05:16 AM

Great! Sounds like its steady as a church at speed. The flat six should be innately smooth with the opposed cyclinder config. I like that it was still pulling steady even at a buck fifty rather than getting anemic.

I seem to recall that when Audi first came out with the TT, it had some high speed aerodynamic problems. I think they were lifting at around 80. Yikes!

Adam, I hear you about the wind noise(pun intended). Above 50 on my harley all I hear is a hurricane of wind whistling. A trick we use on long rides is to use those foam earplugs you get at hardware stores. You can still hear bass sounds like the motor but it takes the higher pitched wind noise away.

Hey PSP, I have done about 52 seconds in the 1/4 mile when in HS too! But, like you, I have had my right knee modded. That's what can happen, when you get hit by a car (hit-and-run), when jogging on the sidewalk. Oouuch!

C&D published (Jan. 2000) a

standing 1/4 mile time for the '00/'01 250 HP 3.2L S of 13.8@101mph. Never done it myself...

nastyboxster 04-02-2006 01:34 PM

I have the Gtech and ran 0-60 times, but I can't find a road long and safe enough to test 1/4 times. I plan to add some mods to the car and that's why I'm measuring the times. So far, I have the air intake and short shifter. I made 5-6 runs and my best time was 5.48, avg about 5.7. I can only achieve the results if I shift at close to/at redline. I plan to do the superchip or GIAC and the 2nd cat bypass. My goal is to get close to 280hp and cut 1/2 second off 0-60. This would be at par with a 3.4 996.

Total cost for the chip and bypass $1500.

13.5 @ 106 was done last week at the track (with a 1.9 60' and missing the shift to 3rd gear the first attempt).

I am running through the data logging and I estimate that delay cost 3/10's, so a low 13 second run will probably happen next time out.

As driven to the track, not even tire pressure changes or a burnout. Full weight car with the 3.4L.

mountainman 08-22-2012 12:09 PM

in western north carolina the average quarter mile has about 20 hairpin turns so our top speed is around 60. However, the boxster does it better than most.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1345666161.jpg

Leeper 08-22-2012 02:00 PM

1/4 miles times... are you sure that you meant to post this on a Boxster forum and not a Mustang or Viper forum? I can honestly say that this question has never crossed my mind. Looking for 1/4 miles times with a Boxster is like using a Hammer to screw in screws

san rensho 08-22-2012 02:22 PM

Zombie thread.

Every time I think of how you have to launch a car for a drag race, throttle pinned ad slipping the clutch to keep the RPM's near the redline, i just cringe. You will eat up the clutch within a dozen launches.

Whats the point?

particlewave 08-22-2012 02:34 PM

Drag racing is so...redneck?

It is in a Boxster!

A 997 TT with PDK is another story.

Since I am from the "Redneck Riviera" I can speak with authority on this subject. Yes, we will drag race anything, station wagons, VW's, mom's sedan, school buses. If it has wheels and a motor we will drag race it.
