Boxster S short shift gear selector

1 Attachment(s)
on my 2001 Boxster S

I lifted the 'leather skirt' around the base of the gear stick;

underneath some of the metal parts of the shift linakges are anodised blue metal.

This looks just like some of the 'short shift' gear linkages you see on eBay etc.

so, has mine been upgraded, do you think?

or is the standard Boxster S gear linkage blue like this?

This is my first Porsche, so I have no idea what the gear stick throw is, and whether it's standard or short shift!

thanks

looks like a short shift kit to me

Your suspicions are correct; it is indeed a short shift kit. I installed the same one in my car a while ago.

ok, I guess that's good then.

well all I can saw is wow! the standard gear shift must have very LONG throws....

my car also has some sort of upgraded manifold.... improved efficiency maybe (my mechanic pointed it out)

Not the full short shift kit. Looks like just the bushings. The white plastic piece the shift handle go through is metal on mine.

these R just bushings
lever travel is stock with them
so it not real short shift kit

As others have said you have a mix of parts. The end pieces with the bushings look like identical to what came with my Schnell SSK, however, the center piece on my SSK is also blue anodized aluminum. The previous owner probably switched it back to the stock shifter at sale time (or previously if he/she disliked the ssk)and had no choice but to use the aftermarket bushing as removing the crappy factory bushings necessitates destroying them...

I believe I saw the upgraded bushings without a short shift kit on Pelican or Vertex, for people who wanted to keep a stock shifter throw, but upgrade the bushings.
