Road Trip!
In May I posted to the "What Did You Do With Your Boxster Today" thread a couple of posts from the road trip I was taking with my 26-yo daughter. Rather than filling that thread with multiple posts about a single trip, I decided to gather photos and maps and post them in my own, separate thread about it.
So here goes: This was a 17-day trip from Milwaukee to Seattle and back. We left Thursday, May 23. Trunk efficiently packed: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372391116.jpg Frunk has room to spare. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372391171.jpg Day 1: Milwaukee to Bismarck, ND. 780 miles. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372391534.jpg Nothing of interest to record with photos along the way, but my daughter did take this shot somewhere in ND that is rather "artistic". http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372392074.jpg Day 2: Bismarck, ND to Virginia City, MT. 620 Miles. You can see the Boxster ahead of the SUV. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372391760.jpg Day 3: Virginia City, MT to Seattle. 650 miles. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372392760.jpg More to come! Wow. Very cool. Love these road trips in the Boxster. Looks like a lot of empty road on your route. Tempted to floor it yet? With all that open road I know I would be.
I've been on two trips totaling about 3k miles round trip for each trip and was a lot of fun. Both were Porsche group drives. Keep us posted. |
That is some voyage. Thanks for the pictures. I like your packing job.

I am a sucker for a road trip story! Anything funny or weird happen on the road?

We spent several days in the Seattle area visiting friends I had not seen in over 20 years.
Wednesday 5/29 we left Seattle and drove to Boise, ID. 610 miles. Including a visit with friends in Vancouver, WA and stopping for Multnomah Falls, we were on the road for over 13 hours. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372481993.jpg The best part was our detour along US 30. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372482078.jpg What is this restaurant doing in the Pacific NW? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372482975.jpg Heading toward Crown Point: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372482161.jpg Multnomah Falls: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372482201.jpg On the way to Boise: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372482723.jpg Next post will be for Boise to Yellowstone. Very nice and beautiful scenery.
You sure are putting some miles there. I'm getting ready for a little weekend getaway myself this morning. Il post some pics later today. |
Great pics! Love it!

Very cool. The fact that you have a relationship with your daughter that allows you to take a trip like this with her speaks volumes of your character. And the memories will last you both a life time.
I did a road trip when I took one of my daughters to college. We drove from Los Angeles to South Bend Indiana. Great trip & memories.... and we were in a U-Haul pulling her VW! |
Did you drive Going to the Sun road in Montana? That Is breathtaking in any car...
|
I am looking forward to mine tomorrow! I am taking the 01' from Tampa, Florida to Anderson, South Carolina. About 8 hours, ok maybe 7 :) and approx. 550 miles. I hope not to meet any police officers, and please no flat tires.

Day 8 of our trip, 5/30/13. With sight-seeing and stops off the highway for gas, it was 502 miles.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657388.jpg We visited Craters Of The Moon park in ID. On the road to Craters: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657583.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657601.jpg Scenes in Craters Of The Moon Park. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657656.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657671.jpg After Craters, we went to Arco, ID for lunch. Arco is the first nuclear-powered community in the world, in 1955. Other than that, it's almost like ID's version of Mayberry. As we drove down mainstreet, we saw the sheriff escorting a prisoner. Prisoner was front-cuffed and wearing the stereotype black-and-white stripe uniform! http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657870.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372657893.jpg DBear |
It was raining when we got to Teton National Park, but we waited until the rain passed and got to see (briefly) their beauty.

We arrived in Yellowstone Park Wednesday evening.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF31372825705.jpg Overnight low temperature was 28F. Thursday morning, frost on the Boxster. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372826071.jpg Old Faithful http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF41372826682.jpg Grand Geyser and Castle Geyser http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF51372827499.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF61372827515.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF71372827702.jpg Spiteful Geyser http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/OF81372827966.jpg More Yellowstone in the next post/ DBear |

I was on a trip from Toronto to Socal with a U-Haul a few years back, in late November and hit a turkey in Nebraska. A few minutes earlier I had driven through a huge blood slick that sounded like we were driving in the rain, from a deer road kill presumably. The Turkey was in the grass median and suddenly took flight and turned directly in front of the U-haul while I was doing about 65mph. I ducked and it cleared the cab and hit the Box just above the cab. It sounded and felt like a cannon shot. Left a huge dent in the UHaul the size of a basketball. I looked in the rear view and saw a big puff of feathers, but did not see the bird. I looked in the passenger side mirror and saw a car that was way behind us pulling over, I think they were collecting their Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner that weekend. ;) BTW, those are awesome pictures of the road trip, sounds like you made some great memories. |
Yellowstone is an amazing place. So cool to go through it in a Boxster.
