New-ish Boxster Owner

I just bought a 2000 Boxster S with 41,800 miles on it. Ocean Blue Metallic with black leather interior and black top.

I have been lurking around this forum and posting a bit here and there since I got it. There is a lot of awesome information on here!

Since I picked it up, I have ordered a few parts:
1. short shifter (ebay)
2. shifter linkage (eagle)
3. driver's side window regulator
4. clear side markers (planning on trying to spray the orange out on the tails for the 550 look)
5. rear track arms from vertex

Long list for a couple weeks of ownership, but totals less than $650 and it'll get my car the way I want it for the most part. I do plan on upgrading the head unit/speakers in the future. I have the hifi system, but the sound is super muddy and with all the hands-free laws, I need something with bluetooth.

Anyhow, I just wanted to formally introduce myself :)

That's a beautiful color! Can't wait to see her with clear side markers ;)

(Late)Welcome to the forums :)

Thanks! I can't wait to get the mods in too.
I've just been reading about spraying the tails and it seems kinda PITA. I picked up a can of the VHT red spray, but I may just order LED tails instead.

Hi and welcome! I also have a blue 2000 S with 42k mi. I also have the hi-fi buttons under the stereo. I never use them or even really turn the radio on. The stereo in my Ford F150 pickup sounds better. Enjoy your Boxster!

Very nice car, and welcome to the club.

Black is such a great color, but the Orange side markers have to go clear.

I have an 02 and am keeping the colored side markers and tails. She is what she is. I don't like it when sixty year old women try to dress up and look like a 21 year old so why do that to my car. She is a classic in my book.

Hi Chard, welcome. I've got the HI-FI too and have found that it sounds good unless I need bass. With classical music, it sounds excellent. I'd be interested in your thoughts on how the Boxster compares to the '02 M3 conv. Beautiful colour combo by the way.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

The car is ocean blue metallic, but yes, the orange has to go. I ordered the updated '03+ side markers and rear tail lights. It's not an old drag queen, just a little bit of blush, hehe.

hifi is a disappointment. The sound coming from it is so boomy, my bass is at -5 which helps to get rid of the muddiness a little bit, but lacks bass when you need it. I'll just have to replace the speakers/deck to get it sounding better.

The Boxster is much more fun to drive compared to the M3. I had an smg and while it acts how you want when you're driving aggressively (HARD, QUICK shifts), it's waaay too docile and slow when you're driving it normally. Shifting in auto mode makes you lurch forward, it's that slow. The Box feels much more taught/tight/nimble. The M3 is MUCH faster, but the Box isn't a total slug either. And I still have the 335i for speed :)

Try replacing the front speakers and put a new double din nav for blue tooth. It really updated my car and looks stock.

Did you have Hifi sound? Did you leave the equalizer in there or take it out? I'd prefer to take it out and put in a cubby to store my phone.

Nice looking ride! Congrads!! and welcome.

I have an 02. I think 2000 or 01 was the last year of the eq. I don't think it should be a problem to remove, but search around the forum, I'm sure someone has removed theirs.

Chard,
Welcome to the forum. Nice ride and hope you enjoy it.
Maybe we can hook up one day. I go back home about 2 times a year.

This is my ride when I do return. This one belongs to my brother.

cas951: Nice shot. I'll have to take the car up Tantalus for some pics sometime soon. Yeah, we should grab a beer when you're back. Where in the bay are you? I used to live in the south bay.

Chad,
I'm at the edge of Santa Clara near Cupertino. Lawrence/Stevens Creek area. Been here since 89. I'll definitely pm you when I return to Honolulu

Chard 07-01-2013 04:30 PM

Nice, I know that area well. I went to Santa Clara University and used to work at the Santa Clara Kaiser. Yep, hit me up when you plan to return.
