959 Kit Car on Ebay - Awesome or Abomination?

What do you think of this 959 kit car for sale on eBay? I am not a huge fan of kit cars but it looks to be built and finished fairly well. Reserve is said to be set >$10K.

As the horse from Ren and Stimpy would say and now apparently my daughter says, "No sir, I don't like it."

I never liked the lines of a proper 959 and I think this is a well polished pig! Not for a Porsche guy at all. :-(

Seats and wheels were not good choices. Wheels are too blingy and race seats make it look too ricey.
But those are easy fixes. I'd do seats similar to what Singer use in their backdated cars, the ones with the woven leather inserts. For the wheels that might be tricky because of the size but it has to be something seen on previous Porsches. Maybe a simple BBS mesh wheel or the Forgeline two piece wheel similar to the Boxster concept car. Steering wheel should be backdated too.
But the body work looks very well done. I might fill in the ducting that tries to make it look like the 959. i think the car can stand on its own as a hybrid design, part 550, part 959, part 356.

Abomination

I remember the 959 when it came out and LOVED it. The finish might be nice on that car, but a Porsche it is not. Plus the 959 was not a convertible.

Was Porsche trying to look like a Ferrari?

The headlights Really bother me . . .

On a positive note just think how easy it would be to improve looks & performance by removing the wing & SUV wheels!

Not a 959 fan, just don't get the look, replica or oem. However lots of celebs love this car. I wouldn't mind having it in my collection as the prices are sky rocketing!

I never liked the 959. The long rear end was what got me. But the performance and technology of it was way ahead of its time.

I believe the owner of Pelican owns one of the few 959 in the U.S.

This 959 is attributed to being owned by Wayne Dempsey of Pelican Parts:

Yeah, I completely agree with the headlight comment......Kinda like an "inny" belly button look. Not pretty!

On a positive note, it looks a lot better than a standard mid-1990s VW Beetle so at least they put the chassis and engine to good use. However, still not a Porsche........

Lotta money for a '74 bug with a plastic body that fails to achieve the look it is going for. There's plenty of real Porsches available for that kind of money.

I just made an offer of $9.99 with free shipping - I'm waiting to hear back from the seller.
