Plasti Dip my Carrera S ii wheels to Anthracite Gray + Glossifier
Finally got a chance to dip my Carrera S ii wheels in the new color Anthracite Gray (4 coats) + Glossifier (2 coats). It got dark by the time I install them on the car so they looks more black than anthracite gray. I'll take better pictures when I get a chance (under the sun). I'll have to paint those calipers red as well.

omg that looks fking amazing!! And it peels off, so if I want to go factory again I can? Because honestly, my wheels look better with a little brake dust

This stuff is amazing! Looks almost professionally done. Great job!

Looking good! That Plasti-dip is some great stuff ;)

I did gold
I guess I wasn't the only one who got some plastidip this week. I used three cans of vintage gold and one can of glossifier. I lost track of how many coats of gold but I know I did one wet coat of gloss. Only complaint is the texture. I hate the rubber feel but thats what plasti dip is. I am considering giving it an actual coating of clear coat just to have the smooth feel. I know that if i didn't say it was plastitidp then people would asume it was powder coat because it looks very good.
I will also post better pictures when I get the chance. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1370846279.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1370846310.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1370846522.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1370846770.jpg |
Okay now...what is the Glossifier! Evo-R, that looks hella good! Has anyone actually used a real clear coat on their wheels? Can you still easily remove the Plasti Dip?
|
Looks fantastic, nice job.
|
PlastiDip has recently became my best friend! Great stuff, easy to put on and take off, and doesn't break the bank !

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Nice color choice evo-r.....looks great!
|
Stupid question, but does the weight of the plasti-dip throw off the balance of the wheel, or did you have them re-balanced?

I suppose it depends on how many/how even the coats are. According to the YouTube videos I've seen, you can paint or clear coat right on top of it and it still peels off just fine. Some use Plasti-dip as a barrier when painting their wheels so that it can be easily undone. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...8639FB9327.jpg |
Very nice.
How long will it last? How hard is it to take off when your ready to remove it? / |
All your plastidip questions can be answered by fonz and his biceps on you tube. Look up dipyourcarcom.

In terms of longevity - my wheels have been Plasti-dip'd for over a year (http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/35614-plastidip-wheels-you-vote.html) and they still look great. I have touched them up twice with a 30 sec re-spray (I did not use the clear coat because I wanted a flat finish). I used PD on both my street and track wheels and it holds up incredibly well even in 100F+ temps at the racetrack. Removal takes a few mins per wheel - it peels right off. Its so easy, its silly. |
Would it work on brake calipers too?

How many cans did you use for all 4 wheels? |
Quote:
1 can per wheel (approx. 4-5 coats) |

Vintage Gold Metallic finish.
Is that the color or is there another gold color? |

True Metallic Plasti Dip - Aluminum, Anthracite & Vintage Gold - YouTube Thats the link for the youtube video of fonz. Like i said I personally used only three cans of the vintage gold, and one can of glossifier. But you get better results with one can per wheel. Look at the video its useful. Edit they already made a bundle pack here is the link https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.php?productid=85&cat=39&page=1 |
I wonder if Plasti-Dip knows what we have been doing with their product...perhaps that's the reason for the glossifier.

More shots...

Evo-r, that looks F$&kn' sick! We all hate you! it looks like the gray is the way to go, over straight black. Now paint those damn Bumperettes!

I have seen the aluminum plate. $200 for flat piece of aluminum though? Must be a factory part!

Here are some of my pics.

Severe curb rash has to be sanded down and reshaped. Just to let you guys know I did sand one of my wheels because it had some strange bubbling under the original paint. I am assuming that it was improperly refurbished so it bubbled. But anyway Vintage gold is a cool color and at night it looks like gunmetal, until hit by direct light. I will post more pics in the picture section of this forum. |
Bmod, what kind of snow tires are you running!!?
|
Bmod986, good job, vintage gold is a nice color too. My 986 came with the same 17" Sport Classic rims which were painted white by previous owner. I'll use them as my winter rims.

Evo, before you bought your car I saw the add for it on craigslist. I think you should make those BBSs vintage gold. White with gold is nice. Here is a bonus picture of the rim I sanded. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1371364085.jpg |
I'm getting ready to do the Anthracite Grey to my Carrera Lights. Where did you all buy your Plasti Dip?
|
Home Depot if you want it right now, but their only in stock options will be black or white. If you want specialty colors, you'll have to wait for shipping.
