Joining the insanity

Ok, I've had my '00S with a build date of 05/00 on the door stamp in the air for an hour now. I've searched and cannot find where the engine vin is located. If it's viewed from the top looking down (I have the car in the air) please be kind.

thanks!
sean

Look around above the sump plate. It's stamped there.

SeanZ4 06-04-2013 06:19 PM

I did and I'm not seeing it??? It's driving me nutso! Your talking about the plate that the oil drain plug goes into right???

SeanZ4 06-04-2013 06:20 PM

also, is it one the ds or pass side?

I recall mine being on the passenger side. Had to clean it off to really see it. Passenger side facing outward on the sumplate IIRC.

passenger side, near the back of the sump (the flat plate that the oil plug goes into). it is beveled and probably so covered in crud that you can't see the number.

in the main image below, look at the top of the right side of the sump - you'll see beveled metal bit sticking out the side of the block - vin number on that:

Got it!!! I've looked at it a 1000 times tonight! I've been cleaning on it with a stiff brush and degreaser and I still can't read it! I can make out the m96 but can't read any of the other numbers/letters :-(

Success!!! For what it's worth. It was just really dirty.

Does that mean anything to anyone? Thanks for the quick replies you guys!

It means your engine was built in 2000, and likely has a double row IMSB.

Per the Pelican article on IMSB replacement:

Up to engine # M 671 11237 Boxster S 3.2L M96.21 Double Row Bearing
