Speedster Humps
Soooo, as part of my Boxster project, I ordered a set of "Speedster Humps" from Extreme Dimensions. The first time I had them on my car, a factory installed bracket failed and the right one flew off my car at 40mph (thank God it did not hit anyone) I am in the process of attempting to get a replacement from the manufacturer. If I do, these things obviously need to be beefed up or more brackets/fasteners added. Does anyone have a set of these? Did you add any other support? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1369603281.jpg

When I got my '03 a few years ago, it had the factory humps on it. I picked it up in Oregon and then drove it to the coast, having a blast and getting up to 70-80 mph. I noticed they were really flopping around and I was very lucky not to loose one or both. Both click locks were broken. The only thing holding them in place was the little hook in back. for the life of me, I don't know how they stayed in placed. Since then, I replaced both click locks and got the very expensive velcro straps. Now they don't move at all. Hooks in the back, click locks on the side and the straps in front. And on my factory humps, the two halves snap together.

I have some on mine and they are the factory ones. I just put them on last week.
They have a big locking pin/lever that locates where the hard top would normally go. Is that what yours are like? Never had mine flap about they are really solid when fitted and look fantastic. When I find my camera I will post a pic of them. |
Thanks for the responses guys. If you could take some pics of your factory ones, I'd really appreciate it. I'll just mod the aftermarket ones to make them right. Thanks again!

My OEMs
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...2/IMG_1152.jpg What I call the click lock (lever cam lock) upper left, velcro strap upper right, and the two hooks on the bottom. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...2/IMG_1154.jpg This locks in to where the hardtop would connect to. Both of these were broken off when I bought the car. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...2/IMG_1153.jpg This is what really holds mine tight, velcro strap that goes around the roll bar. That little strap cost $15. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...2/IMG_1155.jpg Hook on back end which looks like what you have on yours. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...2/IMG_1156.jpg Hook on other side of back end. i didn't show it, but the two halves interlock together. |
Yeah, that's a bit different form what I got... I will definitely need to do some modifications. Thanks fro the pics! Big help!

I have the OEM factory humps, but when I got them they came with zero hardware. I also used velcro straps in the middle, but I cut mine off of some ergonomic wrist supports. They work fine and the cost was $0.
For the locking cam lever I used the mounting point to make a bracket to hold a locking strap instead (cheap from Wal-mart). I just wrap the strap around the roll bar and pull it tight. A metal lock on the strap holds it tight. With the two straps I am able to get my humps on very tight, aligned properly, and have no worries of losing them. This was how I overcame the lack of factory mounting hardware on the cheap. Kirk |
Thanks Kirk, great idea!
