How much for a 100k mi 2.5 engine?
 

I will be pulling my engine this upcoming fall. The shop wants to give me $1,500 for it, but I may be better off selling it to a forum member.

Thoughts?

I assumed ownership at 65k. Oil changes were done religiously. Vacuum leak fixed at 80k. Serpentine belt changed at 90k.

Remember the shop would probably resell it and want to make profit, so add maybe another $500-$1000 to that price.

The core is worth about $1,500. $2,500-$3,000 sold "as-is" (eBay). $4,000-$5,000 "refurbished" (each seller has their own definition of what this actually means).

I have seen the following prices

2.5l go for $2500
2.7l go for $3000-3,500
3.2 go for $4000-4500
3.4 go for 4000-6000

What are you getting? I may be looking for a 3.2 or 3.4l next year. I'm thinking of buying a motor and slowly rebuilding it then have a shop install it for me.
