OMG! Had so much fun driving this weekend
In the two and a half years that I've owned this 99 Boxster, I've never had so much fun driving than I did this past weekend driving from Sacramento to Point Reyes just north of San Francisco! The twisties starting from San Rafael to Point Reyes was awesome! The Boxster was so balanced and the handling was awesome! Those poor people in their front wheel drive cars.... LOL
I could easily double any hairpin post speed limit. (Well, I'm exargerating now) :) Basically, a posted 25 mph I can comfortably do 40. And I have no idea those folks in their BMW 3 series can't go faster.... I'm going to go again this weekend...may be take a trip to Avenue of the Giants.... :) Also, a few more days and my odometer will hit 100,000 miles! Yeah! 50k miles in the last 2.5 years with no issues! Yeah! I will be satisfied if it lasts to 150k but my wife is expecting that it better go to 200k miles..... oh boy.... If I can get it pass 150K, I think she will allow me to get a used 911. :) |
Sounds like good times!
What route did you take, I'm in the Sacramento area too & would like to try the trip you just described. |
Great drive story! Bet you get 200,000 miles out of it.My 2000 has 64,000 and it feels like smooth jet power and very tight.Jealous of beautiful California scenery.Go Go Go.

I have heard of at least a few. Better get the 911 for the Wife and "borrow" it now and then. |

Nope. With that motor hanging out the back, the 911 is fish tail happy on a track. The box is actually far better weighted.
I still want a 991 S though :) |
Google the racing clips of 911's.
When the back ends lets go, with all the weight and power in back there's no getting it back under control until it finishes spinning. Same thing on the street when your a little too enthusiastic with the throttle or in slippery conditions. You have to be going nearly straight to use all that extra power. |
The trip to the Redwoods would be perfect for the Boxster. I just did it last year and my poor wife got car sick ; )
