Power supply to activate fuel pump?
What kind of power supply do I need to activate the fuel pump? I'm in the process of changing the pump but the tank is full so I need to empty it. I have a DC power supply that can generate 3-4.5-6-7.5-9-12V up to 2000mA. Is it enought?
The other thing I have is a batterie charger. Thanks Chris |
The fuel pump needs a "clean" 12VDC source that can deliver at least 5 amps. Be careful with your battery charger as many of these just rectify the AC voltage and provide a rippled output to a battery -- this is OK for charging a battery but could cause problems to the pump.

I use a fully charged car battery... (e.g., removed from the car you're working on, from another car, or the one under your workbench in the garage).

Thanks, that is what I decided to do, work perfectly.

If the pump is dead, I remove the cover on the the top of the tank and use some clear plastic tubing to siphon the gas into gas cans. Best done with the car up in the air.
