996 C4 thoughts

So I'm in a position to relegate the 986 to a life of racing only, and I'm looking at a 1999 Carrera 4. What's everyone think?
The car has 50,000 miles.
$18k is the seller's bottom line
All maintenance done by a dealership
Build date of 7/99 (my 986 has a date of 12/99 and I'm up to 163,000 miles)
I know the 2000 model seems to be more reliable...is this close enough?
I'm looking for this to be a daily driver. I'm looking at other 996 C4's and 964 C4's.
Should I jump on it or run away???

I'm no 996 expert but I know the '99 model years suffered from reliability issues that were worked out the following years. Might want to google it so you know what you're getting into.

With that said, $18k for that car is a deal. I'd snatch it up pending a successful PPI. In my area that car would bring at least $23-25k.

A friend has a 996C4, 2003 I think. Nice GT car, plenty of power, lousy gas mileage (15ish).

A 964C4 is a different animal. If everything works it is a very nice car. If the complex 4wd system fails, parts are essentially non existent. Converting it to a C2 is also challenging from what I understand. As a low mileage weekender it might be a good choice. As an all weather DD I think it would be a risk.
