987 stereo replacement?

Sorry, I searched, but didn't see an answer...

I've got a 2005 S that I bought a 2 din adapter to replace the Bose system. When I brought my car in to put in a new stereo, he said that I had to buy an adapter to hook into the fiber optic system, which would run in excess of $600.00. He mentioned that if I didn't want to do that, he could start from scratch and just put standard wiring through the system. I'm thinking that's not at all a good idea.

What's the best (or alternative) solution?

Put in PSE instead. Turn off the radio!

Mines a 986 but I just removed the fibreoptic stereo, CD changer and amp. I fitted a Pioneer double din and a conventional Alpine amp. The only problem you will have is the Bose subs are 1 ohm speakers.
