Driverside Door Glass
 

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've posted here...

My Boxster has been in storage since the end of October and this past Saturday I went to take her out for a spin only to find the drivers side door window shattered! No idea what could have caused it. The car is stored in an area which only I have access to. There is no damage to the car whatsoever and it doesn't even look like anything has touched the glass.

Has anyone ever had spontaneous glass breakage?

Were you handling spark plugs during the duration of car storage? I have seen spark plugs do that if they contact glass with enough force.

How recently we're the windows tinted? I'm no expert, but I tinted my windows a couple weeks ago(took them out to do it) and when I reinstalled them, I had trouble with what appeared to be a rubber cushion that goes between the glass and the clamps that hold the glass. If one of the pieces of rubber was lost on yours, then the clamp tightened, thermal expansion in the metal clamp theoretically could have provided enough pressure to shatter the window...?

Strange...

I had a rear window in a car I had in college do that on a particularly hot sunny day when it was parked in the sun. Never seen that happen to a side window though.

A friend had a passenger window shatter on his Ranger PU when he was driving.
The glass guy says it happens on occasion. Just the nature of tempered glass.
