Buying a '97, 98, or 99 Boxster, any comments?
I just wanted to know what any of you think about buying a 97, 98, or 99 Boxster. It might have around 50-85K miles. What would the maintenance be like, etc.? Would any of you recommend getting one? Am I worrying too much. I would use it that hard, maintain it all the time as a daily ddriving car.

get at least a 2000, lots of changes to the engine that year. Do a search of this forum and you'll see plenty of info. Also always try to find a Boxster with low mileage, repairs and maintenance on this car is expensive.

As the owner of a 97 with high mileage, I'd recommend you save up and buy one that's a 2000 or younger, 2003 would be my choice. I know they're a lot more money, but if it's going to be a daily driver, you want a dependable car to get to work and you don't want to be fiddling with repairs, right?
Read the links on the bottom of my signature for tips on buying an older box if you haven't done so already. While mine was a shiny wreck on wheels, I did learn a lot of hard lessons you don't need to learn first hand! |
As others noted Porsche made improvements to the boxster throughout it's 7yr run. A 2000 model will give you a 2.7L with E-gas plus a handful of other improvements so try to get the newest one you can that is in reasonable shape.

I would do a search here for the subject of how to buy a used Boxster. There is some very very good information there as to the proper process to use to avoid regretting your purchase.
A used Box can be a wonderful purchase but as in all things, BE PREPARED. Good luck. |
