Triptonic advice needed
 

contemplating buying 2000 911 triptonic 65,00 miles on it.Not familiar with the system.Test rode it yesterday,the car in automatic mode selected high gear even at low speeds and downshifted when I hit gas .Is this normal for a triptonic .

It is normal. I have both a carrerra 4 and boxster with tiptronic. Both shift up at lower rpm than i would prefer, but I use manual mode to prevent it.

The ZF Tiptronic is basically a five speed automatic with a manual override that allows the driver to select different forward gears. It should shift smoothly, like a modernday transmission. As mentioned, it may upshift sooner than desired at the discretion of the transmission.

My one suggestion is to have the ATF drained, drop the pan, replace the filter, and refill the transmission correctly with the appropriate fluid. This will ensure the health and longevity of your transmission.
