JFP recommends Castrol Edge 5w-40 (formerly known as Syntec)

Actually, unless he's changed his mind, what he has recommended (based on their UOA results) is the Castrol 10w-40.

I spoke with JFP in PA and he highly recommends Castrol 10W 40. Lucky for me, I hadn't changed my oil yet and the local Auto parts store allowed me to trade my 5W 50 in for the recommended 10W 40. I really respect JFP's opinion on this matter. He has a lot of background and research to back up his statements.

This weekend, the Box is going to get a belly full of fresh Castrol Syntec 10W 40!:D

Here's a good read. I use Castrol Edge 5W-40.

Lots of half-truths and misinformation IMO. That guy is a surgeon, not a tribologist.

This topic is probably one of the most recurring topics of debate that seem to draw battle lines and start wars. If you religiously change the oil and filter, with a quality synthetic, every few thousand miles, then you probably don't have much to worry about as far as "wearing" out your engine.

I understand why many of us are paranoid about engine failure; however, I think that the benefits of using ONLY one or two brands of boutique oils is equivalent to splitting hairs.

Due to JFP & LN this was my oil choice until Jake Raby introduced DT-40 by Joe Gibbs. Ironically DT-40 only comes in 5w-40.

one caveat, DT-40 oil is not recommended for Boxsters that see track use, not sure if that means autocross is also off the table.

Sure it is! That's all I use. I don't know of a better go anywhere, do anything oil.

That's not saying you can't find a better oil for dedicated track use.

PL is correct. Here is the direct quote from Jake:

"All of my engines that see even one day of track service utilize XP-9 and that product is only good for 750 miles before the additive packages are depleted.
So, in other words don't track your car on DT-40."

Not 100%. Here is the direct quote from me:

But thanks for posting the quote from Jake Raby to support my recommendation!

"Tribologist"?? That's a fair number of syllables for you, insite...I confess to having to look that one up myself. I AM impressed! :D
