No heat. Any suggestions?
After my company's Christmas party tonight, we were coming home in freezing rain. Once the engine was warmed up, I noticed the air was still pretty cold. The windows were not defogging, so I started messing with the controls. I cannot get the heat to come on at all and the defroster vents on the dash will not blow. 45 minutes later I pull into the garage with a windshield that's iced up and a wife who resembles a grape popsicle.
Has anybody dealt with this? Does the heater valve in the Boxster fail in the open or closed position? I'm going to start simple with fuses and relays, but wondering if there's a magical fix out there that someone has run into. TIA! |
I've never actually heard about this with Porsche but I do know that this is a common problem with Jaguar XKs. It almost always due to the heater coil and some plastic bits melting.

try to play with the ignition key
I have experiences too,
Try next, push very gentle counterclockwise your ignition key, so that it will come a little bit backwards, but not so much so that it will come to II position and stop the engine. In my humble opinion this is have something to do with a loosen contacts, but I can be very wrong. Sincerely yours z |
John, you know, it might just be your ignition switch going out, but if you've replaced this recently it's probably the heater core.

It has not happened to me with the Porsche but with my Audi it was the thermostat(in the radiator) gone bad.

I was also considering the interior temp sensor since that has been a problem with others in the 928, but it usually gives you an always hot situation. |
Problem solved!
It was the "Actuation Heating" relay (#18). Replaced it and the defog vents work now and everything is toasty again. I love those $5 fixes! :D
Thanks!! |
