Noise Temp and RPM Specific

mornin' all,

Yes, I have used the search funtion::)

I have a strange noise, howl, high pitched, hard to describe... Occurs only when temp is 180 or above and rpms are at 1800-2000 rpm. Not gear or speed dependant , that I can tell..

Doesn't occur above that rpm range. Does not occur if accellerate hard or easy thru that rpm range. Does not occur till motor has warmed up.

No leaks, drips , loss of power or any other symptoms..

Ideas?

Thanks-
Pup

I've heard of others that had an issue like this. Was related to a fuel filler vent or something. Is the noise coming from the front right side?

Water pump maybe.

Yeah. I found that thread too. Added a piece of vacuum hose.. Pushed into the vent apprx an inch. Figured if anything the pitch would change. It didn't

Did find out today that it will do it in neutral on the lift at the shop

Learned that just as we found an anti freeze drip under the upper radiator hose.

Wondering now if its a water pump noise. Or if the resivior is the source of the leak?

What does a water pump going bad sound like?

Counted lower the top to look in as the top was new this week and I have to wait 7-10 days to lower it..

Thoughts?
