No Spark?

My dad's 2003 986 5 speed doesn't want to start. Now I know what I'm doing around my Saab, but I'm not too handy on the boxster yet.
The Problem: It will turn over with no problem whatsoever. The exhaust smells of gas so I'm assuming it's getting fuel in the cylinders. It did hiccup twice and not want to turn over or even click the starter.
From my searches on here, I'm seeing that it may be the crankshaft position sensor or potentially the ignition switch malfunctioning to the extent of turning the starter but not sparking. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Warren
