The Durametric system is an enormously capable tool, you just need to "get into it" to fully understand what it is capable of.

Coding is both a useful, but also somewhat dangerous function if you don't understand how it works, which is probably why they took most of it away from the Enthusiast software version. You are correct that there are fewer coding elements on the older cars, but as its use became more widespread, how it worked became more complicated. While the early cars coding tended to be "on/off" stuff like the OBC, on the later cars the coding became mini programs with multiple steps or choices along the way. So now instead of one mistake you could make, you get multiple choices to possibly foul up. The correct way to deal with this is to always make a copy of the existing coding file for the module you are working on and save it to your computer before making any changes; that way you can always go back to your starting point if it does not work out correctly the first time.
