Remove rear speaker shelf?
I need to replace my air filter and serpentine belt. I have a 2003 S with the Bose rear speaker box. I see how to loosen the 2 plastic fasteners and where the wire plug is for it. My question is: do I need to remove the box completely to get access to the engine compartment and the front of the engine for the belt replacement, or can I just move it out of the way without disconnecting the plug and removing it from the car? TIA!

03 Non S, I always take mine the hole way out. It almost has to come out to remove the carpet.

You need to take it out to change air filter

Thanks guys; that's what I thought.

I didn't take mine out. Just turned it up on its end on the passenger side and rested it against the top. No problems changing the air filter on the drivers side of the car.

I changed my belt this week & air filter this week too. I removed the rear speakers and all the carpet. Was really easy, took just a couple of minutes to replace the belt and the filter is really easy.
I had some sound insulation left over from a speaker install and put it on the cover that accesses the belt. There is a fair bit less engine noise which is good. The cover is silver so the insulation doesn't look out of place so I recommend this. |
