rattle from rear
Hi all
I'm getting a rattle nosie from the rear of my 2001 boxster S. I'm hoping someone could help diagnose it. Its a mechanical rattle that appears when the car warms up and sits on idle. Its not exhaust related as the rattle will go away when the clutch is depressed. I tried to find it and it appears like its coming from the top rear of the gearbox. Any ideas? |
My guess, heat shield of catalic convertor thet is letting go.
Harmless, but irritating... Mark. |
My 97 had a muffler weld that had broken loose, and a quick stop to a muffler place for a spot weld did the trick. You may want to bring your boxster to a muffler place and have them inspect it. Cheap fix if something is not welded properly.
BTW, my spot weld was free. I asked the guy how much I need to pay and he looked at me and must have thought, "5 minutes work and no parts isn't worth the time to write up an invoice." |
If you haven't already, open the engine compartment and see if you can hear it a little better. Our rattle came from the alternator bearings and it sounded like it was under the car until i opened the engine compartment.
