Boxster Newbie

Hi all...have been busy reading the forum for a few months and finally decided to post my 2001 Lapis Blue Boxster. Bought it back in Sept and have been doing some "improvements" and wanted to share it. So here it is, before and after. Have gotten some great tips from the forum and would love to hear what others think. Some of the things I did since buying:
-Replaced storage box behind seats with speaker set up(put in new speakers)
-Replaced cup holder with the CD drawer
-Installed garage opener (with switch in center console)
-Installed AUX input on dash (thru the CD Changer input on the back of stereo)
-Stainless door sills
-Airbag sticker cover-ups
-Clear side markers
-LED 3rd brake light
-DEPO LED Tails
-LED License plate lights
-Plexi Wind Screen (installed PORSCHE Logo and Shield decal)
-Mesh Grills behind seats
-Painted front and side grills to match wheels
-Original Porsche side lettering(purchased an original decal kit and had a vinyl replica made from it)
-Powder Coated Wheels (took original 5 spoke sport wheels off and purchased a set of 10 spoke and powdercoated..color matched the paint for the center caps)
Soon to get the color matched bumperettes and eventually replace the headlights.

Welcome to the forum!

All of the white was a bit much to take in at first, but it does look sharp! Nice work! :D

From the first glance, I love that white.

Welcome to the forum. I sure hope you like to clean wheels after a couple of drives. Ask me why I ask this.....

My car is all white including the wheels. Wheels are washed every other drive.

Wow looking good ! Nice job! That is one fine Boxster.

I think that it looks great! I love the PORSCHE stripe on the side and the matching wheel colors. The door panels of the 986 are so dang boring - just a big slab of flat metal and the sill stripe fixes that problem by adding a bit of visual interest in a way that also pays respect to Porsche heritage. The white really makes the blue pop without looking like you're trying too hard to be noticed. Great job!

Those LED headlights in silver/chrome would look great on that car with the white accents and match your taillights well,

That blue/white color scheme looks amazing! The only thing I'm not crazy about is the short section of stripe in front of the wheels. Looks chopped off and kinda out of place to me.

I have to agree about the short front piece as well. Otherwise, the over all look is fantastic! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for all the nice comments. Mark/Bruce..I was not too sure about that front piece either at first with no real ending point to it. But with the front grills painted white, when you look at the front/side of the car it kinda flows pretty well from that piece to the grill.

I imagine it does look better with the front grills. It's always tough when you can't see it in person. I really like the side grills! I have the Lapis Blue also and never would have thought of the white, looks really sharp! I just wouldn't want to have to wash my wheels all of the time:cheers:

Humble opinion.....I, too, think the stripes should be at center
of car only...more classic sports car look. But, car looks great! Intense
contrast that's clean and fresh.

drew44 04-05-2013 12:03 PM

Apprecaite all the input from all..looks like the verdict is still out of there on the front piece of vinyl, but for now i think i'm gonna keep it and see if it grows on me. I can always peel it off and see how it looks without. And yes SKRAP i cant wait to get the headlights replaced, still trying to figure out which ones then how to pay for them..

Was out at Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills, CA this morning and took a pic of this car with the front piece of the PORSCHE decal rounded off and longer. just wondered what people think of that compared to how mine is. Any thoughts??http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1365359061.jpg
And mine:

Will post some pics from the event over on the show and tell page.

BruceH 04-07-2013 10:39 AM

I think that would look better. It is too abrupt right now IMO. Try some photoshop to see how it would look.

Mark_T 04-07-2013 11:12 AM

That's what it needs. I think it would look finished if it was rounded instead of being just chopped off square. The end point is just too random.
