What is this bracket?
The title is pretty self-explanatory. I was tinkering with my new 2000 Boxster S, and I noticed this bracket on the right side of the throttle body. It looks there had been something there previously, as the threads are still really shiny. What is it for?

There's a photo of one doing something on this thread:

Is that bracket doing something in the other picture? Every picture I've found seems to show an empty bracket. Is it for an option that nobody wanted?

this bracket (AKA reteiner bar)has several functionalists.
1. anchor for engine support bar. 2. mount for e-gas TB bracket. 3. mount for PSE solenoid bracket. edit: 4. bracket for tiptronic transmission cable. |
In my car it supported the throttle body. With the larger TB its gone.

+1 for the TB

you can locate the solenoid wherever you want. however, you will need it if one day you will need to do a clutch job. that bracket is suppose to connect to the engine support bar. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1365001470.jpg i also found out that with tip trans there is another bracket that attached to it. but you are not going tip right ? :) |
That is clearly the upper income bracket.

I guess I get that it CAN be used for a lot of things, but I don't see why it has those two empty threads on them. What bolts "originally" went through those threads, and why? If anyone has photographic evidence, I'd love to see it. At least one inquiring mind wants to know. Haha!
