Checkin' in about MP3 adapter 987...any luck yet?

Anyone ran across a MP3 adapter for the cd changer for the 987 yet? I have called around and haven't located one yet. Getting real tired of the FM transmitter!

Aftermarket Stereo

I put in an aftermarket Alpine radio with iPod control.. now my ipod sits cleanly in my center console where I can lock it up.. it's been great.

Rail26 does not have the luxury of installing an aftermarket radio... the 987's have a dash-integrated stereo system.

I've read that the CDR24 can play MP3s on the 2006 model (burned to a disc). Would be curious if a 2006 owner can confirm this.

If so, perhaps a switch can be made, although I reckon it would be mighty expensive as I'm sure P charges quite a bit for that POS.

I thought I read that the 2006 can read MP3s, but only with the PCM addition, not just the CD player.

And the biggest problem with the 987 is the fiber optic (MOST) bus that all the audio rides on. You can't just swap in any old aftermarket stereo.

In fact, right now, we have precisely ZERO options.

I downloaded the MOST specs and while the protocol doesn't look difficult, I don't have the hardware to do the sniffing and analysis. My biggest question is why is it taking so long for companies like Alpine, Dension, etc. to figure this crap out!? There's a large market forming for MOST bus audio, one would think!

can't you route the speakers to the MP3 directly? I mean have some sort of connection between the speakers and a regular old stereo jack with an auxialiary switch. Sorta like the VGA switch I have on my PC at home. I can run my PS2 to my flat panel monitor or switch back over to the PC itself.

The speakers aren't powered and there's no way the weenie little amplifier in an MP3 player is going to be able to drive them.

Still zero options I guess...great. Thanks for the discussion. I guess I will crawl back to my technological blackhole and wait for an invention. I wonder if the cavemen took this long discovering fire.
